I like this blog. I'd post in it more often, but i have to admit i find blogging rather less relevant than certain other more pressing interests (which i have been valiantly attempting to keep out of this particular medium). However, in an attempt to broaden my horizons and do something that ISN'T a purely intellectual exercise, i'm going on a vacation. Not from this blog, mind you -- if anything, i suppose i'll post in it more often. You may remember that last summer i wrote about taking a little excursion away from intellectualism by working in the field of construction...
I'm suitably convinced that construction is an unpleasant field of labor.
If anyone reading this is a construction worker -- i'm pulling for you! That job is TOUGH.
No, this vacation should be slightly less grueling, though it pays less. I'm going on a walk across England! My voyage begins in London, but shortly later deposits me at Land's End in southwest Cornwall. The walk starts from there and slowly winds its way up, along the coast mostly, to John o'Groats in northeast Scotland. It's more or less the furthest you can walk in Great Britain in one direction. Personally i probably won't make it past Edinburgh, but that's ok, since i fly out of there anyway (and i only have 39 days to get there). My roommate, whose crazy idea this was in the first place, intends to continue on for another few weeks, so he might actually finish the trek.
The plan is pretty loose right now; we'll camp as much as possible and stay at B&B's whenever our clothes stink too much to keep going. Expect occasional updates, mostly in the form of photos. After i return, when the job market continues to rebuff my most suave and practiced advances, i'll likely revisit the images with more of a critical eye, as i think i've slowly established is the modus operandi of this e-weblogojournal.
